Journeying Together through the Synod What do the Consultations Look Like? Synod consultation sessions take around 90- 120 minutes and follow a method of Spiritual Conversation. This method is based on a form of “communal apostolic discernment” that began with the Society of Jesus and has been in use for more than 500 years. It has a few steps: ▪ Begin with prayer and listening to the Divine Word ▪ Reflect on the experience of the Gospel and on your own experience ▪ Share your experience in a small group; listen closely to each others’ stories. ▪ Sit in silence to reflect on all you have heard. ▪ Share on what moves you, resonates with you. ▪ Sit in silence to pay attention to your inner thoughts. ▪ Talk about how the Holy Spirit may be prompting us. If you would like to participate in a synod consultation session, we invite you to come and share a piece of your own story of journeying with the Church and to learn from the experiences of others, both good and bad. Each of us comes with the hope of improving the way we journey together.
